Whispering gallery waves near fluid-solid boundaries

Abstract

Whispering gallery waves propagated inside fluid along its curved interface with elastic solid are discussed. Asymptotic formula described the wave field is suggested. This formula relates amplitude of WGW to positions of source and receiver with respect to the boundary. For each particular model (media parameters, frequency, geometry of the surface, etc.) it is possible to calculate where the amplitude of whispering gallery waves propagating along the interface between fluid and solid would be the largest or the smallest. This information can be used, for example, to increase or diminish effect of WGW. Vice versa, obtained formulas can be used to infer positions of receiver or source from the strength of WGW signal.
