The shale hydrocarbons prospects in the low permeability khadum formation of the Pre-Caucasus

    Abstract

    Khadum Ciscaucasia suite is promising to detect sedimentary formations of shale hydrocarbons in Russia. To assess the generation potential of the suites it has been carried out geochemical investigations of organic matter. Studies suggest higher oil source properties Khadum deposits in Central and Eastern Caucasus, and also allow highly touted prospect detecting both conventional and unconventional (shale) hydrocarbon resources. Conventional hydrocarbon accumulations are predicted in the areas of traditional arched reservoirs and traps in the northern parts of the Eastern Pre-Caucasus, in central and south-eastern parts of the Terek-Caspian trough. Prospects of revealing unconventional hydrocarbon resources are associated with areas of immature "rich" and "very rich" potentially low-permeability shale oil source rocks that are at the initial stage main phase of oil or on the approaches to it.
