Abstract

Detail finite element analysis of a new fiberglass roof for a hopper car 19-5153 has been performed. Subcomponent specimens were tested under operating conditions to support the structural design and verification of the applied FE local models of the roof component joints. A full scale test of the third part of the roof was realized and simulated. To optimize the roof manufacturing a numerical modeling of the vacuum infusion process was performed.
