Abstract

We give some examples of how to compute the determinant of the laplacian on scalar fields in the theory of open oriented strings. We use some relations between holomorphic functions and differentials on an orientable surface with a boundary S and its double D and meromorphic functions on a closed surface S which results from gluing discs to components of the boundary ∂ S of S.
