Simulation of particles transport in multiphase pipe flow for cleanup of oil and gas wells

Abstract

A mathematical model of particle transport in long pipes is presented. The governing system of equations is formulated and appropriate closure relations are chosen to solve this system numerically. We propose an approach that allows coupling of the proposed physical model for particles transport with dynamic multiphase pipe flow simulators, based on drift-flux and multi-fluid approaches. The flow is assumed to consist of a liquid- or gas-saturated packed bed with single or multiple sheared suspension layers. The approach is applicable to flow at all inclinations and is capable of handling the bed formation and motion. We present the results of coupling with an in-house pipe flow simulator and validate the results against laboratory data.
