A method of selective recording of the mass spectra of charge-exchanged, doubly charged ions on an ordinary sector mass spectrometer is described. Mass spectra of such ions are given for propane, butane, isobutane, n-hexane, n-heptane, benzene, and toluene. Delay curves are measured for isobutylene ions which give peaks corresponding to masses of 51 and 52. It is shown that some of the C//4H//3** plus (m/e equals 51) and C//4H//4** plus (m/e equals 52) ions break down in the process of charge exchange with the ejection of one hydrogen atom.
