Reconstruction of evolutionary events basing on comparison of gene and species trees

Abstract

Some numerical and other characteristics (numbers of duplications, losses and gains, events of massive duplications, etc.) in a model for evolutional history of prokaryotic genomes are presented. This analysis is based on comparison of a set of 132 protein trees and a species tree. Two evolutionary scenarios allowing and not allowing for gene gain events are considered. We predict that some of the gained genes originate from horizontal gene transfer.
