An approximate method of computational determination of the thawing and freezing rates of rocks around a well drilled in a permafrost area is presented. The corresponding Stefan's problem is reduced approximately to the integration of an ordinary first-order differential equation. Using this method, a FORTRAN language program is written and a series of calculations made. Results of calculation of the time of reverse freezing of rocks depending on the time of previous thawing are presented in graphic form, suitable for practical use.
