Abstract

The radiation pattern and intensity of the electromagnetic radiation from a point dipole source (e. g., a semiconductor quantum dot) located inside a photonic crystal layer consisting of a periodically ordered array of dielectric nanocolumns have been calculated. It has been shown that the main features of radiation can be explained considering a simple model of the interaction of the dipole with Fabry-Perrot resonances of eigenmodes of the photonic crystal layer. The total power of radiation and radiation pattern strongly depend on the position of the dipole, orientation of its dipole moment, and frequency of oscillations.
