Quantum percolation in granular metals

The development of quantum theory to find the quantum percolation in granular metal films for large randomly distributed tunnel conductances was discussed. It was shown that at low temperatures, strong intrinsic inhomogeneities were developing in granular metal arrays with moderately large random bare conductances. The predicted behavior was detected by measuring the distribution of the local tunnelling density of states at the low temperatures. The results show that the percolative nature of the metal insulator transition was established by a combination of analytic and numerical analysis of the matrix renormalization group equations.
