Abstract

A quantum mechanical coupled states approach was used to calculate the vibrational relaxation cross sections and rate constants of hydrogen fluoride by argon on a semiempirical potential energy surface. The two nearest rotational levels of the ground vibrational state were shown to have vibrational relaxations of a quasiresonant character. The close coupling coupled state calculations for the relaxation and rotational excitation of hydrogen fluoride were also described.
