Planar surface discharge in flow with shock wave

Abstract

Nanosecond high-current surface sliding discharge ("plasma sheet") can be used for supersonic and transonic flow control. The surface transversal discharge may influence strongly gasdynamic flow with plane shock wave in channel. The purpose of the study was: analysis of instant localized surface discharge energy input in gas. Pulse discharge plasma glow evolution in flow was recorded with CCD camera. Non-stationary gas dynamic process of plane shock wave interaction with pulse surface discharge (energy deposition) in shock tube channel was investigated. CFD (computational fluid dynamic) simulations of pulse energy deposition near surface in front of shock wave were carried out. Analysis of instant surface discharge energy rate through CFD and laser shadow images matching was carried out.
