Physical layer representation in LEO satellite with a hybrid multi-beamforming

    Abstract

    This paper presents a new satellite mobile communication system with a hybrid multi-beamforming technology. Common digital beamforming consumes a lot of satellite power to create very narrow beams, while resources of the satellite system are limited. Analog beamforming consumes much less power, but limits the satellite throughput and coverage. The above problems can be solved by using a hybrid multi-beamforming, i.e. by multiple digital and analog beams combining. We propose a new physical layer structure for the hybrid multi-beamforming system.
