We have studied the optical properties of MnAl-C alloys with excess manganese and calculated the electronic structure of equiatomic MnAl and of an impurity Mn atom in an Al site in order to understand the variations in the electronic spectrum of the compounds associated with the presence of an antistructure Mn atom in the Al sublattice on departure from stoichiometry. The experimental curves of optical conductivity are given. It is shown that the energy spectrum of ferromagnetic MnAl is a combination of two band systems for electrons with spins oriented in and against the direction of spontaneous magnetization.
