Numerical simulation of a turbulent large-scale thermal

Abstract

The ascent of a large-scale thermal in a stratified atmosphere was calculated on the basis of the Reynolds equations closed with the k-ε turbulence model. The influence of turbulent processes on thermal development was investigated. The time dependence of some flow parameters, including the lengthscale and kinetic energy of turbulence, is presented. Th+e results are compared with those obtained using a constant (model) Reynolds number and those calculated on the basis of the Euler equations.
