Monitoring statistical magnetic fluctuations on the nanometer scale

Statistical magnetic fluctuations were analyzed in magnetic semiconductor single quantum dots (SQD) using spatially resolved optical spectroscopy. Self-assembled CdSe/ZnMnSe QDs prepared by molecular beam epitaxy were investigated. Quantitative access to statistical magnetic fluctuations was obtained by analyzing the linewidth broadening of the single dot emission. The results were based on the fact that the excitonic magnetic polaron (EMP) formation time was smaller than the recombination time.
