The main works of mathematician R.L. Dobrushin carried out by him during his life are shortly reviewed. The achievements in the fields of the theory of chances, Markov processes, information theory, mathematical physics, theory of telecommunication networks and linguistics are enumerated. A large cycle of works devoted to statistical physics includes Gibbs random fields, Markov processes with local interaction, Gaussian and automodel fields, Wulff construction and the theory of large deviations in the two-phase region, evolution of large systems and hydrodynamic equations.
