Resonance ion losses in the trap of an ion cyclotron resonance (ICR) spectrometer due to ion interactions with an electric field applied in the radial plane of ion rotation at nearly resonance frequencies are studied experimentally. Dependences of the characteristics of observed resonances on experimental parameters are obtained both for light ions formed by electron-impact ionization and for heavy ions produced by electric atomization into vacuum. Additional resonances giving rise to ion losses in the trap, not observed previously in ICR, are discovered. The results of studies are compared with the available theoretical data.
