Abstract

A new general type of reductions of the hierarchy of Kadomtsev-Petviashvili equation is established. These reductions are equivalent to the Lax equations for pseudo-differential operators of the form L1-1L2, where L1, L2 are ordinary differential operators with coefficients that are functions of variables t1 = x, t2, .... It is shown that besides the KP hierarchy they are invariant with respect to the "rational" symmetries as well.
