A class of generalized isoentropic (adiabatic) exponents for real gases is introduced and analyzed in detail. The generalized isoentropic exponents are calculated for methane as a gas important for practical applications. New exponents that change only slightly along isoentropic curves are found. The possibilities are indicated of deriving approximate relations that describe the thermodynamics and gas dynamics of a real gas and are analogous in form to the relations for ideal gases. The accuracy of such relations is estimated, and the ways to employ them in practice are outlined.
