The effect of electric field on the critical current of SNS contact is studied in the framework of Ginzburg-Landau theory. We show that electric field can significantly enlarge the critical current of the contact. This effect is especially strong when the temperature of the sample is close to the superconducting transition temperature of normal layer Tcn. The electric field effect depends on film thickness: the thicker the film the weaker the effect. Nevertheless, it can be significant for a thick film when the temperature is close to Tcn. The cooperative effect of electric and magnetic fields is also studied.
