Abstract

A report on the direct ultraviolet writing of channel waveguides in congruent lithium niobate single crystals was presented. The ultraviolet (UV) source used in the experiments was a frequency-doubled Ar+ laser. An additional loss of ∼2.5 dB was observed after 30 minutes for the laser power levels used in the characterization experiments.
