Abstract

We propose an algorithm for exact mapping of gene starts in completely sequenced bacterial genomes. Unlike the existing algorithms, it does not require learning samples and does not rely on homology. We present the results of testing the algorithm on genomes of Escherichia coli, Haemophilus influenzae, Helicobacter pylori, Bacillus subtilis, Methanococcus jannaschii, Archaeoglobus fulgidus, Methanobacterium thermoautotrophicum. The reliability of the available annotations of complete genomes is discussed.
