Bifunctional luminescent-magnetic composite particles synthesis

Abstract

A novel synthesis method of luminescent-magnetic composite structures containing carbon nanomaterial and magnetite nanoparticles is reported. Successive steps including magnetite nanopaticle synthesis, their protection with silica shell, and freezing-induced loading into CaCO3 microparticle pores with pre-loaded dextransulfate, thermal treatment, and matrix dissolving are described. Obtained composite structures are characterized with fluorimetry, dynamic light scattering, transmission electron microscopy, and confocal laser scanning microscopy. The movement of obtained structures in non-uniform magnetic field is studied. Both luminescent and magnetic properties of bifunctional nanostructures are demonstrated.
