Atomic clusters of magnetic oxides were made in a laser vaporization source. Their vibrational properties were studied with the help of cluster dissociation caused by resonant absorption of multiple infrared photons. A ferromagnetic ground state for small Co-O clusters was found in contrast to the antiferromagnetism of bulk CoO.
