Abstract

The set of eigensolutions of a box diffusion model is discussed which provides a basis for representing the indeterminacy of the response of atmospheric CO2 for a given carbon dioxide emission scenario. A method is proposed by which for each permissable solution that corresponds to a given CO2 emission scenario, by using results on the instantaneous air fraction. The method is used to analyze the way in which the indeterminacy of the response of atmospheric CO2 depends on the indeterminacy in the estimate of the vertical profile of CO2 in the deep oceans at some instant on interval.
