A solvable model of gravitational wave detector and the standard quantum limit

Abstract

In the theory of continuous quantum measurements, the standard quantum limit characterizes the sensitivity of a measuring device. For a solvable model of the gravitational-wave antenna, we find explicitly an estimate for the standard quantum limit for dimensionless perturbation of the metric by the gravitational wave. This approach allows one to estimate numerical values for realistic models of LIGO-class devices.
