A non-linear approach for on-line parameter estimation of synchronous machines

Abstract

This paper presents a non-linear parameter estimator to update the model parameters of synchronous machines. It is presented how recorded measurements from the stator and field winding are used to successfully estimate the machine parameters during transient conditions. The high accuracy of this effective non-linear approach, based on the Unscented Kalman Filter, is validated when updating the parameters of a 325 MVA synchronous machine operating during transient conditions.
