Space weather: Transitioning Research to Operations
Research in solar-terrestrial physics, development of space weather services for mitigation of space weather hazards:

  • Eruptive events on Sun and their space weather impact (solar flares, coronal mass ejections, extreme ultraviolet waves, coronal dimmings, etc);
  • Relation  between high-speed solar wind streams and coronal holes at Sun,
  • forecasting of solar wind speed at Earth;
  • Short and long-term solar activity and solar radio flux forecasting
  • Forecasting of geomagnetic storms and polar aurora
  • Scientific and service products

Interdisciplinary applications
Development of advanced data analysis techniques for the extraction of useful knowledge, control and forecasting in interdisciplinary applications.

Academic Reputation and Societal Impact

The research of Dr. Podladchikova is dedicated to space weather and solar-terrestrial physics with a focus on both basic and applied research using a research-to-operations approach, bringing together the forefront of research with applications and services. Dr. Podladchikova has fruitful and synergetic collaborations with a number of academic institutions in Europe, UK, USA, China, and Russia, including European Space Agency (ESA), ESA European Space Operation Center, contributing to the development of new space weather services for the ESA Space Situational Awareness Programme, which aims at creating operational services for end-users to forecast space weather conditions between Sun and Earth. She is also a PI of the Russian contribution to the EU Horizon Solarnet project, which Skoltech represents Russia in the consortium of 35 international partners institutions from science and industries.

Since 2017, Dr. Podladchikova serves as a program coordinator of Space and Engineering Systems, MS.c. in Information Systems and Technology and since 2016 as a managing editor of the Elsevier journal REACH – Reviews in Human Space Explorations. She is also very actively involved in the public engagement and scientific outreach on Space Weather, speaking broadly at public events and in mass media including TV, radio, magazines, exhibitions, web media, museums. Currently she is involved in the development of the project of space center laboratory and citizen science projects in Polytech museum, one of the largest and oldest scientific-technical museums of the world.
