Academic Reputation and Societal Impact

Dmitry Eskin is an expert in modeling of multiphase flows and heat and mass transfer in application to various petroleum technology processes, mainly Flow Assurance, Microfluidics and Enchanced Oil Recovery (EOR).

Flow Assurance studies processes, which can potentially lead to reduction of hydrocarbon production. Modeling these processes allows to avoid or mitigate their negative effects. Flow Assurance modeling activities, except those on gas hydrates, within Russia have been relatively poor. Dmitry is an author of models of asphaltene and wax deposition, which are recognized in petroleum industry and academia (especially, asphaltene deposition related works). Current Dmitry’s work on modeling of emulsion generation is inline with interests of a significant fraction of international scientific community, and also supported by Schlmberger Doll-Research. All Dmitry’s flow Assurance related papers have been published in leading journals and some of them attracted significant reader’s attention. Dmitry is currently working on multiphase flow and flow assurance related projects. Due to industrial necessity, he started also actities in the area of micro and nano-fluidics. Dmitry’s experience in this field is also confirmed by a number of in highly-ranked journals. The mentioned research areas have a great potential for development of new technologies of Fluid Characterization and EOR.

The research in the area of flow assurance and EOR is naturally oriented on industrial applications. The major objective of EOR technologies is to provide oil extraction from reservoirs characterized by various properties. The objective of flow assurance is to sustain production during entire period of reservoir explotation. Petroleum industry is a key component of Russian ecomony; thereore, success of research in these areas has a significant societal impact.
